The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) will soon have an opening for an Executive Vice-President at its head office in Ottawa.  As the Chief Operating Officer of NSERC, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the formulation of the future vision and overseeing an integrated vision and associated strategies and initiatives to achieve the Council’s policy, programs and priorities. The EVP will also be responsible for ensuring effective corporate policy development and planning, as well as being the senior executive responsible for Governance (corporate secretariat function) and Risk (internal audit, evaluation, ethics and integrity).

This position calls for a fully bilingual, results-oriented leader who has:

  • Graduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience in developing and maintaining successful relationships and partnerships with senior officials from government, academic and non-governmental sectors.
  • Extensive management experience involving the development and implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Experience in strategic management, organizational change and those management techniques which promote and improve organizational performance.
  • Experience in dealing with members of Council and advisory bodies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the university research environment and research policies and trends, both nationally and internationally, and of the various funding channels to support research and research training.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the research and policy environment in government and the alignment of that environment with the post-secondary education sector.


$141,700 – $177,100
